The challenge

MR.DIY is one of Malaysia’s largest retail chains, with a customer base built primarily around in-store shopping. As the brand looked to deepen digital engagement, it needed a mobile experience that would give customers a reason to open the app repeatedly — not just a digital replica of the loyalty card, but something that felt genuinely rewarding and social to use.

The solution

Bridzia designed and built a new mobile shopping and loyalty app for MR.DIY from the ground up. The experience centres on a few core selling points:

  • Scan & Earn at checkout

members scan their receipt or member QR code in-store to earn points instantly, keeping the earn step frictionless and tied directly to a real purchase

  • Friends & Family group

members can invite friends and family into a shared group and earn loyalty points together, turning individual members into a referral channel for new sign-ups

  • Gamification mechanics

spin-the-wheel style play, badges, and challenges layered on top of the core points system, giving members reasons to return to the app between purchases, not just at checkout

  • Rewards catalogue

points redeemable for vouchers and in-store rewards directly from the app, closing the loop between earning and redeeming in one place

  • Member dashboard

points balance, tier status, and progress all visible at a glance on the app’s home screen

The results

Within its first week of launch, the MR.DIY app surpassed 100,000 downloads, with the Friends & Family feature contributing meaningfully to organic, referral-driven growth. Making the earn step as simple as a single scan at checkout, paired with a gamification layer on top, has helped shift the app from a simple points tracker into something members actively open and engage with — a key differentiator for a loyalty program built around a primarily in-store retail brand.
