The challenge
During Malaysia's Movement Control Order, grocery shopping became an inconvenience — limited business hours, long entry queues, and social-distancing rules pushed shoppers online for necessities. MYDIN, a household name in Malaysian wholesale and retail with 69 outlets nationwide selling food, household items, electrical goods, and textiles, needed a way for customers to get essentials without spending hours in-store or adding to crowded shop floors.
The solution
Bridzia developed MYDIN Express, a click-and-collect e-commerce site that powered MYDIN's Drive-Thru service. Customers could:
Shop online
pick the items they needed from the catalogue
Choose a store
select which MYDIN outlet to collect from
Collect in 2–3 hours
pick up once the order was ready, without a long in-store wait
The model cut the need to manage shopping crowds, shortened wait times for shoppers, and lowered exposure risk for both customers and store staff.
The results
Launched in just one week, MYDIN Express drew overwhelming positive feedback from customers. Express shopping became a go-to for shoppers who no longer wanted to spend hours in-store, while quieter floors helped MYDIN run more efficiently and reduce staff illness risk. Beyond the MCO window, the click-and-collect model remained useful as online grocery stayed a preferred channel for many consumers.
